Ascension Thursday in the Syriac Catholic Diocese of Homs..
His Excellency Bishop Mar Yulian Yacoub Murad, accompanied by Al-Khor Bishop Michel Numan, Priest of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, and in the presence of the faithful brothers, presided over the Divine Liturgy on the occasion of Ascension Day.
In his speech, His Excellency reflected on the Gospel of the Ascension, and on the farewell words of Jesus before his ascension, which gave the disciples awesome power: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
From here came the church’s awareness that it is a missionary church…it cannot sleep or close its doors…especially the Church of Syria, which has known since the dawn of Christianity that it is a missionary church, as many of the people of this region carried the good news to everywhere and therefore we find many of their remains buried. The Bishop pointed out that this holiday is an important holiday in the church’s calendar because it is the holiday that launched the church to the world. He stressed that our responsibility to preach is not only in words, but in life, by being an example, by being a Role models.
