On the 75th anniversary of its founding: The Pontifical Mission is an institution that heals wounds and gives hope in the Middle East.
The head of the Pontifical Mission “CNEWA,” Monsignor Peter Vaccari, visited the Syriac Catholic Archbishopric in Homs, where he was received by the shepherd of the diocese, Bishop Mar Yulian Yacoub Murad, and the priests of the diocese, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the mission, this ancient institution during the reign of Pope Pius XII.
To meet the needs of the Palestinians who flocked to Lebanon, Jordan, Jerusalem, and the West Bank after 1949, to carry out humanitarian assistance work.
After that, several offices branched out from the mission, including the Beirut office, whose scope of work includes the churches of Syria.
During the meeting, light was shed on the role, mission, and goal of this Catholic association, which seeks to help the Eastern churches, following in the footsteps of the Good Samaritan, to everyone who needs care and social assistance, and to meet the needs of all those who need assistance, including vulnerable people throughout the Middle East, in Lebanon, Syria. , Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.”
Projects and urgent needs within the diocese were also presented, along with a horizon tour on the situation of Christians within the diocese and in Syria in general.
